It took two runs in the eighth inning but the Philadelphia Phillies were able to get by the Houston Astros by the score of 7-5 on Thursday night. The two teams battled back and forth but in the end it was the Phillies that came out on top.
Ryan Howard went 3-5 in the game including a solo home run and a rbi double. Howard led the Phillies with two rbi in the game. Pat Burrell, Chase Utley, Pedro Feliz, Geoff Jenkins, and Carlos Ruiz all had one rbi in the game as well for the Phillies. The Phillies could have scored a lot more runs then seven as they left 27 runners on base in the game.
Kyle Kendrick got a no decision in the game as he pitched the first five innings of the game. Kendrick allowed eight hits and five runs in the game. Ryan Madson, J.C. Romero, Chad Durbin, Tom Gordon, and Brad Lidge pitched final four innings of the game and did not allow a run. Durbin actually picked up the win for the Phillies and is now 1-1 on the season. Lidge was making his return to Houston where he used to play as he recorded his 12th save of the season.
Good win for the Phillies as they start off the four game series with the Astros on the right foot.
