Ryan Howard blasted two home runs as the Philadelphia Phillies kicked off a three game series with the Boston Red Sox with a 8-2 victory on Monday night. Howard had the four rbi’s in the game as he went 3-5.
Howard wasn’t the only Phillies player to go deep however. Jimmy Rollins hit a first inning home run off of Red Sox starter Bartolo Colon to get the Phillies scoring started. Rollins finished the game with three total rbi while Chase Utley also chipped in with one.
Cole Hamels tossed seven innings and gave up seven hits and two runs to pick up the victory. Hamels is now 7-4 on the season with a 3.23 era. Hamels received a standing ovation when he was taken out in the top of the eighth inning. Chad Durbin then came into the game and pitched the final two innings while only giving up one run.
Good job by the Phillies as now the pressure is on the Red Sox to get a win on Tuesday.
