The Philadelphia Phillies didn’t score until the 7th inning when the scored three runs, but that was enough to beat the New York Mets on Tuesday afternoon.  The Phillies did add on a couple more insurance runs in the 8th inning as well.

Behind 2-0 going into the 7th inning, Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino scored on a throwing error by Carlos Delgado.  Jason Werth then singled to right field and scored Chase Utley to give the Phillies the lead.

In the 8th inning, Rollins singled and scored Carlos Ruiz to give the Phillies a 4-2 lead.  Utley then delivered a RBI double that scored Rollins to make the score 5-2.

Tom Gordon closed out the ballgame in the 9th inning to pick up his first save of the season.  Jamie Moyer pitched six innings of four hit ball to pick up his first win of the season.

Rollins did leave the game in the bottom of the 8th inning with a sprained ankle so we will have to keep an eye on that injury and see if it causes him to miss any time.

Pat Burrell connected for two homeruns and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 5-3.  Jimmy Rollins and Geoff Jenkins also homered for the Phillies.

The Phillies did have some trouble in the first inning as Cole Hamels stuggled, but he quickly adjusted and pitched a pretty good game.  Hamels gave up five hits and three walks in seven innings of action.

Brad Lidge came into the game in the 9th inning and picked up the save even though he did let one run in.

Ah, a game that got away from the Philadelphia Phillies.  The Phillies were up 3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th inning but could not hold onto the lead and the Reds came back to win 4-3 as they scored one run in the 8th inning and then another run in the 9th inning.

Ryan Howard did hit his first homerun of the season in the 8th inning.  Chase Utley and Pat Burrell helped out with one RBI each, but the Phillies still came up short.

Adam Eaton started the game for the Phillies and pitched pretty good.  He lasted 7.2 innings and only gave up three earned runs on six hits, four walks, and two strikouts.  Chad Durbin took the lose for the Phillies when he allowed the game winning run to score in the bottom of the 9th inning.

Chase Utley connected for two homeruns, including his 100th career longball and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-4.  The win improved the Phillies record to 2-2 on the short season.

Pat Burrell also helped out by connecting for a two run homerun.  Great offensive performance by the Phillies on Friday.

Kyle Kendrick picked up the win after pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and four earned runs.  Kendrick needs to have a little better control and keep those earned runs down if he wants to win on a regular basis however.  I’ll take that outing for his debut in 08 however.

The Philadelphia Phillies picked up their first win in 2008 eason in dramatic fashion as they beat the Washington Nationals 8-7 in 10 innings.  It took a bases loaded walk to Jason Werth to get the winning run, but the Phillies will take it any way they can get it!

Clay Condrey picked up the victory out of the bullpen for the Phillies.  The rest of the bullpen pitched pretty good as well as Ryan Madson was the only relief pitcher charged with a earned run.  Starting pitcher Jamie Moyer was charged with three earned runs in only 3.2 innings.

Hopefully the Phillies offense will stay hot as they play the Cincinnati Reds next.  The Phillies can really use some wins to get back to .500 and stay towards the top of the division.
